- 1.
- This is a Team competition for any school or youth group (e.g. Scout
troop) that competes in POTOC Local Events.
- 2.
- Groups, schools or individuals should be POTOC members at least
before their second event is competed.
- 3.
- The competition will be over a full academic year.
- 4.
- Excluding the Score event, points will be awarded in all POTOC Local
events.
- 5.
- For each Local event the best 4 scores for a School or Group will count for
the score in the competition.
- 6.
- At the end of the competition year the best 4 events for each School
or Group will count towards the overall total.
- 7.
- A minimum of 4 events competed and for the team awards a minimum of
4 competitors per event must be achieved to qualify for an award.
- 8.
- Disqualified competitors will count to this eligibility, scoring 0
points
- 9.
- Pairs may qualify for the team score , applying the lowest class
handicap to the two competitors.
- 10.
- Competitors accompanied by an adult on the course are deemed
non-competitive for this competition.
- 11.
- Competitors sometimes run on more than one course at an event, the
first one only will be eligible for the competition.
- 12.
- An individual can be eligible for a school and a group, but can
only score for one at any one event.
Awards
The scores will be calculated and published after each
event. There may be a delay after results are published before the league
is updated The scores are handicapped so all schools and groups can be
tabled in a composite league. At the end of the competition year the
following awards will be made:
- Winning Junior school
- Winning Middle school
- Winning Senior school
- Winning Youth Group
- Highest scoring boy (best 4 events)
- Highest scoring girl(best 4 events)
The teams will be awarded trophies and the individuals
medals. Both will receive certificates.
Courses
POTOC normally offer 4 courses at each local event:
- 1. Easy

equivalent to Yellow, about
1.0 - 1.5 km (course mainly on
paths)
- 2. Moderate

equivalent to Orange, about
2.0 - 2.5 km (course sometimes veering off
paths)
- 3 & 4. Short/Long Hard

equivalent to Green or Light Green, about
4.0 - 5.0 km (difficult courses designed for
experienced orienteers)
